Animal Movement in South Africa and PEI

I began my Master's degree by heading to South Africa to radio-track endangered African wild dogs in a small game reserve and that's where my up-close adventures with wildlife and the people living near them began. Understanding the link between local communities and the wildlife around them has been an incredible experience, not only in Africa, but also on PEI, where I am now finishing up work on the red fox, a charismatic animal that most Islanders have a real appreciation for. I attempted live-trapping but was out-smarted (!), so I used snow-trails and computer simulations to determine where red foxes are moving and why. This is important because animal-human interactions can lead to disease spread, attacks, and domestication of wildlife, just to name a few. I have had the opportunity to be involved in special interest groups, local organizations, and with the public as well as the academic community and that has made my university experience rich and rewarding.
