As a mature student I clearly remember driving to my first university class in September 2008. I was walking to the now defunct classroom centre to attend Soc101 with Dave Varis as my Prof. I was really having doubts about why I made the decision to attend university at this point in my life and was looking for a reason to go home. Dave Varis introduced himself to our class and showed a picture of a mountain on the power point projector. He gave a very inspirational talk about the university experience that made us all feel a bit more at ease. As I continue my journey up the mountain, I often reflect on Dave's speech in my very first class. Looking back I feel very fortunate that I chose his class as my first because he really inspired me to chase my dream of obtaining a degree.
