Life’s circumstances interrupted my education but UPEI’s decision to offer the new Bachelor of Integrated Studies degree gave me another chance to reach for my dream. After attending the information session, I felt the program was tailor made for me and at the age of fifty-six I enrolled. The very act of strolling across the historic campus to visit the Registrar’s office was exhilarating. I had arrived at university! Since that day, every person encountered has made me feel that their personal priority was the successful outcome of my academic year. Strategies are in place for everyone who wishes to further their education. Although still early in my quest, I am exhilarated, challenged and thoroughly enjoying the journey. A caring professor suggested to me that “You belong at university,” and to my class she said, “You belong to the community of scholars.” Her words were empowering and resonate still. I reflect on them often as I walk this road of education and self-fulfillment.
