The UPEI Business Society is all about students making connections — with the business community, with professors, and, of course, with each other.
The UPEI Business Society is a student-run organization dedicated to enhancing the educational experiences and social well-being of students throughout their time at the University. The Society undertakes many activities and initiatives each year, providing members with great opportunities to develop relationships with the local community.
One such activity is an annual food drive for the Food Bank, which, given their entrepreneurial spirit, is competitive: this year the MBA students collected the most food. But, in true philanthropic spirit, they donated their $150 prize to the Food Bank. Other activities include organizing presentations by business-leaders, social events, and, for the first time this year, a student-teacher decathlon, which includes bowling, dodgeball, Wii tennis, and floor hockey in Schurman Market Square. Judging from the photos, a great time is being had by all!
The largest initiative the UPEI Business Society takes on every year is the Annual Business Society Luncheon. Every March for the last 33 years, the UPEI Business Society invites local leaders from the public and private sectors to hear a keynote speaker and help raise funds for the year's initiatives. This year's luncheon, held March 5, featured guest speaker Darryl McDaniel, president and owner of U&Me Marketing Incorporated.
The luncheon is the main source of funding for the following year's executive to be able to complete the tasks they wish to. In the past they have had the privilege of hosting Prime Ministers, CEOs of multinational companies, and other business leaders as their keynote speakers.
